Build Nothing For Us, Without Us
Our mantra, “Build Nothing For Us, Without Us,” reflects a core belief: meaningful, lasting innovation cannot be imposed from the outside
It must be designed by superintendents, leadership teams, and educators who understand their communities, their students, and the realities of implementation. Through FLC, members work collaboratively to redesign learning systems that are more personalized, equitable, and responsive while influencing the future of education across the state.
Membership in the Future of Learning Council is an opportunity to lead, not wait. It connects district leaders to a trusted network of peers who are committed to moving beyond conversation and into action by sharing responsibility, learning from one another, and driving innovation locally while shaping statewide momentum for change.
Leaders are choosing
The Future of Learning Council
District leaders are joining the Future of Learning Council because the work can no longer wait, and because they don’t want to do it alone.
Superintendents and leadership teams recognize that incremental change is not enough to meet the needs of today’s learners. FLC provides a trusted, practitioner-led space where leaders can think differently, learn from one another, and take meaningful action to redesign learning systems.
What makes FLC different is how it grows. Membership has expanded not through marketing, but through leadership. Current members are encouraging their colleagues to engage in this work because they see its value. Leaders commit because the conversations are honest, the learning is practical, and the community is focused on real implementation. Together, members are building momentum locally while contributing to a shared vision for the future of learning across Michigan.
Leaders join the Future of Learning Council to:
- Engage in honest, forward-thinking conversations with peers facing similar challenges
- Lead systems-level change rather than relying on isolated pilots or short-term initiatives
- Learn from districts actively implementing personalized, competency-based learning
- Build internal leadership capacity through superintendent-led, cross-functional teams
- Access practical tools, frameworks, and shared resources grounded in real district work
- Influence learning innovation across Michigan—not just within their own district
- Be part of a trusted, practitioner-led network built on collaboration, not compliance
What Membership Includes
- A structured environment that removes barriers and encourages participation
- Access to a statewide community and resources designed to support real systems change
- High-quality learning experiences, collaboration with peers who are actively doing this work
- Access to tools and frameworks tha support locally driven innovation
- Guidance, shared learning and strategic support to design solutions that align with context, values, and students
What Membership Looks Like
FLC membership is built around active engagement and superintendent-led teams. Districts commit to participating in learning sessions, engaging in collaborative dialogue, and applying insights within their local systems. This is a shared learning journey focused on leadership, alignment, and implementation.
Members are encouraged to bring cross-functional teams, contribute to shared learning resources, and learn from both successes and challenges across the network. The result is steady progress, informed decision-making, and leadership capacity that extends well beyond a single initiative or school year.
Who Membership is For
Who Belongs at the Table
Membership in the Future of Learning Council is designed for superintendents, central office leaders, building administrators, and educators who are committed to designing learning systems that better serve every student.
Whether a district is just beginning to explore new models or is already deep into implementation, FLC provides a supportive community where leaders can engage honestly, learn from peers, and move forward with clarity and purpose.
Membership is a good fit if you:
- Are ready to question traditional models of teaching and learning
- Believe students deserve learning designed for today’s world
- Want to test, learn, and adapt new learning models
- Believe progress only matters if it spreads
- Are willing to engage honestly, openly, and actively
- Want to be part of building solutions, not just talking about them
If you are here to listen, learn, and contribute, you are welcome.
Membership Model
A membership model designed for teams, not individuals
A single district membership allows superintendents and district leaders to engage as many team members as they choose in FLC learning sessions and events, removing barriers to participation and encouraging shared leadership across the system.
Membership supports the full scope of FLC’s work, including:
- monthly professional learning meetings
- guest speakers and facilitators
- curated learning experiences
- and the operational infrastructure required to sustain a high-quality, practitioner-led network.
Strategic partnerships help offset costs and ensure that membership remains accessible and cost-effective, allowing districts to invest in meaningful learning without limiting who can be part of the work.
This model is intentionally designed to promote alignment, build internal capacity, and support long-term systems change, so districts can move forward together, with a shared understanding and collective momentum.
We Make It Possible
A growing community
of educators and leaders across Michigan working to advance student-centered learning
Membership is designed to be flexible. Districts and organizations engage based on local priorities, capacity, and timing. Some participate deeply year after year. Others join for specific moments of learning and return as needs evolve.
