Executive Director
Dr. David Richards
Future of Learning Council
David Richards, Ph.D., serves as the Executive Director of the Future of Learning Council. In this role, Dave leads and facilitates the FLC’s efforts to support leaders across Michigan in designing new models of learning for students. The FLC is an organization dedicated to building the capacity of leaders and their teams in next generation learning models. Dr. Richards’ K12 career roles included superintendent, high school principal, chief technology officer, and high school computer science teacher. He has contributed to multiple articles, books, podcasts, and panels on leadership and district transformation.

As an approved 501(c)(3), the Future of Learning Council has established a Board of Directors to oversee all organizational and fiscal responsibilities of the FLC. The Board meets on a regular basis to plan professional learning for members, develop strategic partnerships, and support member needs. The Board of Directors serve in a volunteer capacity. Our Board of Directors have been dedicated to the capacity building of education leaders from the original launch of the Michigan Competency Consortium and bring diverse perspectives on teaching, learning and leadership. Our Board has a shared purpose of providing high-quality professional learning to assist leaders in transforming their local learning community to address the needs of Every Child, Every Day.

Dr. Chris Timmis
Superintendent, Dexter Community Schools
Dr. Christopher Timmis is the Superintendent of Dexter Community Schools, serving in that role since 2013. Prior to moving to Dexter, Dr. Timmis served as the Superintendent of Adrian Public Schools for 5 years. Throughout his career, he has served Michigan students as a Superintendent in two different districts, as a high school principal, curriculum director, middle school and high school teacher, coach and as a paraprofessional. He holds an Ed.D from Eastern Michigan University, M.Ed from Wayne State University and B.A. from Adrian College.

John VanWagoner
Superintendent, Traverse City Area Public Schools
Dr. John VanWagoner has worked in education for over 25 years as a high school teacher, school administrator, instructional specialist, high school redesign manager, legislative liaison for the Michigan Department of Education, Associate Superintendent at the county level, Superintendent of Alpena Public Schools and his current role as the Superintendent of Traverse City Area Public Schools (Michigan). He holds a B.A. in Secondary Education from Saginaw Valley State University (MI), M.S. in K-12 Education Studies from Michigan State University, M.A. in K-12 Educational Leadership, and a Ph.D. in K-12 Education Leadership from Western Michigan University. He is also a past fellow of the Washington D.C. based Institute for Educational Leadership’s Education Policy Fellowship Program.

Dr. Kelly Coffin
Superintendent, Farmington Public Schools
Dr. Kelly Coffin has been in education for 30 years, serving as an educator in both general education and special education, a building administrator at the elementary and secondary level, local and intermediate school district assistant superintendent, adjunct professor for Eastern Michigan University’s Leadership and Counseling department, and a local district superintendent. Kelly is involved in many organizations, including a founding member of the Future of Learning Council, a group of K-12 superintendents and district level leaders committed to personalized, competency based learning. Kelly also recently worked with Michigan Virtual to support educators in the work of embracing remote/virtual learning and adopting a learning management system to enhance the K-12 instructional delivery model across the educational system.

Dr. Rebecca Hutchinson
Superintendent, Concord Community Schools
Rebecca Hutchinson is a visionary leader. She has been a rural educator for 22 years and has taught fifth grade as well as science and language arts at the middle school. While in the classroom, one of her favorite projects was starting a middle school robotics class that led to successful PK-12 robotics program. For the last seven years, she has worked in administration serving 4 years as a K-8 principal and now superintendent. She is very passionate about accessing academics through teaching the whole child. Specifically, designing systems that integrate academics, social emotional standards, and blended instruction are having a tremendous impact on teaching and learning in her district.

Dr. Sean Williams
Superintendent, Eaton RESA
Dr. Williams serves as the Superintendent of Eaton RESA where he provides leadership to all RESA programs as well as support to local districts within the service area.
Dr. Williams previously served as the Deputy Superintendent for Eaton RESA. He joined Eaton RESA after serving as the Director of Student Instructional Services with Ingham Intermediate School District in 2017. He was also as an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University. He is a board member for the Capital Area College Access Network as well as an advisor for MICHAuto’s Michigan Mobility Talent Consortium.
He holds a dual Ph.D. from Michigan State University in K-12 Educational Administration and Educational Policy. Dr. Williams’s top publications focus on school principals and their role in policy implementation in the Journal of Education Policy and the Journal of School Public Relations.
